Health Ministry Will Pay Mission Hospitals

The Public Relations Officer of the Health Ministry, Tony Goodman says the ministry is working with the Finance ministry to ensure that the amount of money owed the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) is paid to prevent the introduction of the cash-and-carry system for NHIS card holders. We are working with the Ministry of Finance to make sure that we get the rest of the two months left to be paid; we are only left with February and March, he said on Eyewitness News on Thursday. Members of the Christian Health Association of Ghana from July 2, started the implementation of the cash-and-carry system for NHIS card holders who visit their health facilities. The mission hospitals in a publication on Wednesday noted that the decision to implement the cash-and carry system for National Health Insurance Scheme card holders is due to the inability of the NHIA to pay CHAG health facilities outstanding bills owed them. But Mr. Goodman in an interview said the Health Ministry is doing everything possible to make sure the monies are paid to the mission hospitals. He however appealed to patients and the general public to make use of other health facilities that accept the NHIS cards in the meantime.
