Cop Shoots Okada Rider

A dispatch rider with the Central Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service is reported to have shot the rider of an unregistered motorbike, barely a week after a policeman had allegedly shot a taxi driver on suspicion of being a car snatcher. According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened at Bubiashie in Accra about 9am yesterday. Hot chase The victim, Owusu Acheampong, 29, was said to be riding the unregistered motorbike with a bag tucked behind him when he saw a police patrol vehicle. The rider was said to have diverted his course, but the police pursued him. While Acheampong was escaping from the patrol team, he came face to face with Lance Corporal Daniel Nunu, the dispatch rider, who tried to stop him but he refused to pull up. Onlookers said the policeman then pulled a pistol and shot the motor rider in the right buttocks. The victim was rushed to the Kaneshie Polyclinic from where he was immediately referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. Cop detained When the Daily Graphic contacted the Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr Freeman Tettey, he confirmed the incident. He said the Accra Police Command had commenced investigations into the incident. He said the Regional Police Commander had ordered the immediate detention of the policeman, while investigations continued.
