Play Your Roles As Parents In Education - Nana Adjei Boateng

THE MEMBER of Parliament for New Juaben North Constituency, Nana Adjei Boateng has admonished parents to play their expected roles in ensuring quality education in the country. He said parents should not neglect their basic responsibilities towards their children�s education since education needs joint efforts of government, teachers and parents. The MP said this when speaking at the first graduation and open day celebration of Asokore Methodist Junior High School in the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern region. Nana Adjei Boateng continued to explain that, even though the government has major responsibilities in ensuring quality education, if all stakeholders play their parts well, standard of education would rise in the country. He, therefore, expressed regret that government , being a major stakeholder in education has failed to provided needed logistics such as chalk, cumulative records, capitation grants, among others to schools across the country, a development, the MP believes is putting education into crises. He advised the graduands to study with an aim of passing to tertiary level. He assured to help complete all ongoing projects in the school this year. The headmaster of the school, Sasu Mensah Jonas disclosed that since appointed as Manager of the School in 2009/2010 academic year, there has been significant improvement in academic performance, discipline and physical infrastructure, all with concerted efforts of the teachers and parents. Sasu-Mensah noted that even though candidates� performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) fluctuates, it has remained stable between 80 % and 89% since 2012. He was however optimistic that, 100% record would be achieved this year with the 61 candidates presented at the BECE exams. He appealed to stakeholders to support in completing a fence wall project being constructed by the Parents Teachers Association around the school to serve as security for both pupils and teachers due to the location of the school. Special awards were presented to best graduands in various disciplines.
