Security Personnel Advised To Rely On Their Service Rather Than On Political Connections

An out-going Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Madam Elizabeth Mildred Ofori, has advised officers of the division, not to think of political connections, but to be sober and committed to their jobs. She said that was the only way one could rise through the ranks with honour and pride to any position assigned, other than thinking of political connections to achieve heights on the job. Madam Ofori gave the advice at a farewell parade organized in her honour at Koforidua, as the out-going Sector Commander for the Koforidua Collection, after 23 years of distinguished service to the Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS). The farewell parade, normally termed the the pull out service, held in honour of senior officers in the Security Services that attained the compulsory retirement age of 60, was attended by several dignitaries, including the Commissioner of the Customs Division of GRA, Mr Wallace Akodor, Service Commanders of all the Security Agencies in the Region, and the Deputy Regional Minister, Ms Mavis Frimpong. Madam Ofori who rose through the ranks to become the Sector Commander in 2011, reminded them that service with diligence was beneficial than misconduct. She thanked all who supported her in her 23 years of service to mother Ghana, and hoped that the objective of the service would continue to guide all in the service to give of their best. It is on record that during her tenure as the Sector Commander for the Koforidua Collection within the last three years, Koforidua Collection had exceeded its target for two consecutive years, while massive infrastructural renovations had taken place at Osino and Donkorkrom, all under her command. The Commissioner of GRA, Customs Division, Mr Akordor, described the out-going sector commander as an industrious woman and service officer who distinguished herself through the career without any blemish . He said, in all stages of her career, from the humble beginning as a collector, the out-going commander performed creditably, and hoped that her achievements would inspire others to rise to the occasion. Ms Frimpong, the Deputy Regional Minister, said the out-going sector commander had made women proud for distinguishing herself in her career, and that her achievements surpassed even that of men that held the same positions. She said that was a testimony to investment being made in the girl-child and her education, and urged Madam Ofori to put her experience and expertise in the service at the development of society wherever she found herself for the benefit of mother Ghana.
