Five persons were on Thursday remanded in prison custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court for their alleged involvement in the murder of the assembly member of the Nagole electoral area, Samuel Kwasi Frimpong.
The suspects, Kofi Sebe, a trader; Kofi Gyasi, driver; Akwasi Agyei, businessman; Kojo Owusu, driver; and Yussif, also known as Nana Boro, a newspaper vendor, pleaded not guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.
They will reappear before the court presided over by Mrs Efua Adu-Amankwah on August 4, 2014.
Facts
Briefing the court, Chief Inspector Sylvanus d�Almeida said around 8 p.m. on March 24, 2014, the deceased, who was returning home from his mining site, got to his house at Atwima-Techiman and tooted his horn for his father to open the gate for him to enter.
He said as soon as he stopped the car, the accused persons and three others, now at large, who had laid ambush in front of his house opened fire on him and shot him severally, killing him instantly.
He said after killing him, the accused persons proceeded to the house and managed to take away cash in the sum of GH�16,500.00 and sped off in a car.
Arrests
Chief Inspector d� Almeida said police investigations later led to the arrest of the accused persons from their hideouts.
According to him, with the exception of Yussif, all the other accused persons have volunteered to make statements to the police.
The Counsel for Yussif, Mr William Kusi, told the court that his client was never involved in the alleged incident and was only arrested because he had an altercation with the deceased in the past.
According to him, his client is based in Accra where he plies his trade as a newspaper vendor, but regularly visited Kumasi, and it was on one of such visits that he was arrested.
