Police Cautions ICU, Public Against Lawlessness

The Tema Regional Police Command, has cautioned miscreants against using the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU)'s demonstration on Monday to perpetrate crime and undermine public safety. The Tema Chapter of the ICU is embarking on a demonstration against the country's economic hardships in the Tema Metropolis on Monday. The demonstration would start from the Tema Community Centre at Community One, through Mankoadze roundabout, Stadium road to the TIRA at Tema Community Two. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Olivia Turkson, Tema Police Public Relations Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that the Command would not tolerate any acts of criminality. ASP Turkson said there would be heavy police presence in the Tema Metropolis during the protest march to check lawlessness and safeguard life and property. She called on the organizers to advise their members to be law-abiding, and embark on a peaceful demonstration. She warned participants to desist from acts of lawlessness, such as the damage of public property, unlawful road blockages, and attack on road users. The Police PRO gave the assurance that the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) would also be on the roads to ensure the free flow of traffic.
