Veep presents Senchi Report to President

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has formerly presented the Senchi Report to President John Dramani Mahama at the Flagstaff House in Accra. The Senchi accord, which was agreed on by stakeholders on May 15, was aimed at achieving consensus on the difficult choices facing the Ghanaians economy and to mobilise the country on the way forward. Mr Amissah-Arthur said the death of Mr Paul Victor Obeng, Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission slowed the down the compilation of the Report, since he had a lead role to play in the process. He said crucial aspect of the Senchi Accord is the broad participation and the formation of the Implementation Advisory Group, as public interest body to ensure the participatory oversight of the execution of the report. Mr Amissah-Arthur expressed the hope that the presentation of the report would serve as the turning point in the economic management of the country to facilitate a broad participation in going forward as nation. He said various groups including Association of Ghana Industries, the Trades Union Congress, African Centre Economic Policy and the Ghana Employers Association, would be involved in the implementation process. President John Mahama said Ghanaians showed a lot of interest in the Senchi forum when it was announced because for many years opinions have been plentiful as to what part the nation should take in terms of meeting the economic challenges. He said it is always when Ghanaians rally together to achieve consensus and pursue a common objectives in terms of the development and growth of the economy, �that we would be able to sustain the kind of forward march we all anticipate�. He said even though the report has taken sometime the quality of work done would justify the long awaited time.
