Car Dealer Remanded For Stealing

A car dealer has been put before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing three vehicles totaling GH₵157,000 and a cash of GH₵51,200 belonging to a businessman. Patrick Kwasi Asibey, who was charged with stealing, pleaded not guilty. The court presided over by Ms Ellen V. Amoah remanded Patrick into Police custody to reappear on August 5. Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Aidan Dery told the court that the complainant Mr Frederick Kwesi Asibey is a businessman domiciled at Canada while the accused person resides at Madina, Accra. During last year, the complainant imported eight vehicles namely Totoya Camry, Pontiac Vibe, Hyundai Tuscan, Toyota Corolla, and Toyota Matrix and tasked Patrick to sell them and pay the proceeds to into his accounts. Prosecution said the complainant provided Patrick money to clear the vehicles. After clearing seven of the vehicles Patrick used two of the vehicles namely the Toyota Camry and Hyundai Tuscan to obtain a loan of GH₵27,000 from one Mary of Madina and pocketed the proceeds. On March 24, a report was made to the Police and Patrick was arrested while one Pontiac Vibe and Totoya Matrix have been retrieved from the accused. During police interrogation, the accused person admitted selling three of vehicles and pocketed the proceeds. According to the accused he used two the vehicles to obtain a loan but could not tell the Police where he took the loan or the telephone numbers of the providers of the said loan. Prosecution said Patrick was granted Police enquiry bail, he however failed to report to the Police. The accused surety was therefore served a motion to produce Patrick.
