Address Management Challenges

The Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, has called on the leadership of the Ghana Institute of Management (GIM) to help build the managerial capacities of indigenous Ghanaian businesses. He said effective management was a major challenge confronting many institutions and added that �the only way to resolve the challenges is to enhance the knowledge of Ghanaians in management�. Mr Ashigbey made the call when the council members of the GIM paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Accra. GCGL�s role Mr Ashigbey said the GCGL periodically organised events that brought together experts and stakeholders to discuss ways of improving the economy. He cited the recent Graphic Breakfast Meeting held to discuss ways of increasing exports as an example of events organised by the company to grow the economy and strengthen local companies. Mr Ashigbey assured the GIM that the GCGL was ready to offer the institute the platform to reach a larger audience in its efforts to ensure efficiency in management practices in Ghana. In addition, he said the company would consult the institute for its views on topical national and social issues that may be published in its newspapers. Management practices For his part, the President of the GIM, Mr Kwame Antwi-Boasiako, said the institute was committed to enhancing the management skills of institutions and individuals. He added that the institute was ready to provide the requisite training for organisations and said �we have the human resource to provide the requisite training needs�. Mr Antwi Boasiako informed Mr Ashigbey that the institute planned to officially confer an honorary membership of the institute on him. He also stated that the institute would renew the corporate membership of the GCGL and expressed the hope that the visit would enhance the relationship between the two parties. The Editor of The Mirror newspaper, Mrs Janet Quainoo, offered to give the institute a column in the paper for the publication of articles on management and leadership. Mr Bosiako, on behalf of the institute, expressed appreciation to the management of the GCGL for the offer and promised that the institute would use the column to educate the public. Present at the meeting was the GCGL�s Director of Newspapers, Mr Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh, and the acting Director of Marketing, Mr Dodzi Anador.
