The Deputy National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Baba Sheriff Abdulai, has reminded members vying for the party�s national and regional executives positions that per the NDC constitution, they will be disqualified if they have not held any executive position within the party or government. He said Article 42 (f) of the NDC constitution sought to help members to grow from the ward, constituency and regional levels before taking up a national position. NDC constitution "Article 42 (f) stipulates that; no member of the party is qualified to vie for a national executive committee position unless the member has, prior to seeking election, held an executive position within the party or government. You have to build a base. You should be known in your constituency� Alhaji Baba Sheriff said. Party elections The National Delegates Congress of the party is tentatively slated for October 2014. Currently, the party is holding its ward elections. The ward executive members will then constitute the delegates for the election of the executive members at the various constituencies. The constituency executive members will also constitute delegates for the election of the regional and national executive members of the party. Agitations Recently, some NDC groups in the Northern and Upper East Regions kicked against the disqualification of members who were interested in the National or Regional executive positions but had not held any executive position in the party or government. Argument The Deputy National Organiser told the Daily Graphic that some youth in the NDC had sought to create the impression that any member at all could contest the national executive position of the party. That he said, was far from the truth since the NDC constitution was explicit that national executive positions were reserved for only members who had served as executive members within the party or government. �You cannot vie for national executive position unless you have held an executive position or been a former Member of Parliament, a Deputy Minister or a Minister of State� he stressed. Recall Alhaji Baba Sheriff said when the NDC lost the 2000 elections, many of its members went away instead of staying to rebuild it. Some of them went back to school when others became pastors. He said only a few members stayed behind to rebuild the NDC. Therefore Alhaji Baba Sheriff said the NDC constitution sought to ensure that members identified with their communities by holding executive positions within the party at the ward and constituency levels before joining the national fray.
