The Senior Staff Association of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KOSSA) is asking for the continuation of an audit exercise which began under the tenure of the immediate past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the hospital, Mr Edward Annan, and the immediate Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Rev Dr Albert O. Botchway. Consultants and specialists of the hospital also expressed a vote of no confidence in both Mr Annan and Rev. Botchway. The then Minister of Health, Ms Sherry Ayittey, responded to the call and removed Rev Dr Botchway, but he was reinstated by the new Minister, Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah. The President, however interviewed and appointed a new CEO for the hospital. Mr Annan later resigned as Board Chairman. Reinstatement brouhaha The Secretary of the KOSSA, Mr James Clifford Oblitey, told the Daily Graphic that the association�s earlier petition to the President had demanded an audit of the Mr Annan and Rev Dr Botchway-led administration. However, he said the letter from the new Health Minister reinstating Rev Dr Botchway and copied to the Auditor General seemed to have reversed the directive for an audit by Ms Ayittey. He said a special audit process had begun before the reinstatement of the former CEO, and expressed the need for it to continue to unravel the truth about happenings at the hospital. After the audit, due sanctions should be applied to the culprits, he noted. The association further requested that the board of the hospital be dissolved, the resignation board chairman notwithstanding. Mafia group On the allegation by Mr Annan that there was a mafia group at the hospital, Mr Oblitey dismissed it, saying Mr Annan should provide evidence to back his allegation. He said Mr Annan, having been the board chairman for the past few years, should have dealt with the group if it ever existed. In his resignation letter, Mr Annan had appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to dismantle what seemed to be a mafia group operating at the hospital that was generating wealth for some members of staff and their associates at Korle Bu and clean the rot there. �When you talk to the average Korle Bu worker, he or she will tell you the truth � that there are money-making blocs that seriously resist being dismantled,� it said. �If you manage to clean up Korle Bu during your Presidency, you would have done a great service to the nation. I encourage you, President, to set your face as a flint and unravel the seeming mysteries which are compounded by collusion from sources you least expect,� the letter stated.
