"Make Photography A Serious Business"

Mr Kwame Fiati, Head of Marketing, Advert Ghana, on Wednesday urged members of the Ghana Union of Professional Photographers (GUPP), to move from just being ordinary photographers to 'photopreneurs.' You need to be 'photopreneurs' who will earn an income from your photography, whether as a full time profession, or as an occasional photographer, he said. Mr Fiati made the remarks during a GUPP seminar when he spoke on the theme: How to make money as a professional photographer, in Accra. He said, photography today has become a business everybody is doing, so members of the union should upgrade themselves in the field in order to be unique among the lot. We have to move away from being just photographers, to photopreneurs, because we are not making the money, weve been taken by surprise by modern day phones which have cameras with high quality pictures, he added. Mr Fiati stressed that in order to move the business forward, photographers need to build their technical skills, be knowledgeable, and must have the ability to market their creativity, adding, "And most importantly, you need to take quality pictures and be self-disciplined. Mr Dan Jim Selassie, President of GUPP, appealed to photographers to join the mother union. Lets come together to become one unique body to move the business forward, because some people are dragging the business backward, he said.
