Police Commander Calls For Pro-Active Policing

The Agona Swedru Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Issah Ahmed Yakubu has exhorted Inspectors and Chief Inspectors of the service to adopt pro-active policing to prevent horrendous crimes in their various stations. According to the Commander, the inspectors serve as a hub of the Police Service and also ensure full implementation of the policies and programmes formulated by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Regional and Divisional Commanders of the Service. Chief Superintendent Yakubu made this known at a days intensive capacity building conference organised by the Divisional Command for Inspectors and Chief Inspectors at Swedru. He said the conference was aimed at checking indiscipline that has raised its ugly head in the Division to ensure effective policing in the area. The Divisional Commander stated that another area to reduce crime is for the Officers to eliminate re-active policing and rather adopt co-active one which bind them to share responsibility. He explained that the re-active policing indicate that the Police would fail to prevent crime from occurring which cause the Police Service to lose credibility in sight of the public. The Divisional Commander urged the Officers to work closer with the public in order to protect life and property, which is the core function of the Police Administration. He therefore asked the Police personnel in the Agona Swedru to show high sense of direction and try as much as possible to care for the people under their jurisdiction. Chief Superintendent Yakabu called on the personnel of the Service to erase the public perception of tagging Police as most corrupt security agency in the country. He said assured the people in the Division that the Police would intensify their day and night patrols to reduce armed robbery cases and other crime related issues to protect life and property.
