52-Year-Old Mason Jailed 22 Years For Defiling Girl, 4

A 52-YEAR-OLD mason who defiled a four-year-old girl has been sentenced to 22 years� imprisonment by the Accra Circuit Court. Robert Quaye, who reportedly usually said he would marry the girl when she grew up, was said to have sent the victim on an errand without the knowledge of her parents, to enable him execute the act. He pleaded guilty to the offence of defilement and was convicted on his own plea by the court, presided over by Ms Sedinam Agbemeva. Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mrs Sarah Acquah, said the complainant was the aunt of the victim. She said on April 24, 2014, Quaye went to the victim�s house and sent her to buy bread without the knowledge of her parents. She said Quaye went to hide in an uncompleted building to wait for the child. As soon as she brought the bread, the prosecutor said, Quaye forcibly had sex with her. Mrs Acquah said one Efo Doe who saw Quaye in the act confronted him, and sensing danger, he took to his heels. She said Quaye was later arrested and sent to the Adenta Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service, where a medical form was issued for the victim to be sent to the hospital for an examination - which confirmed the act.
