Former President Kufuor honoured

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has been honoured for his strong support to Research, Science, and Technology education. Micjoy Advertising, an advertising consortium, and the Academic Diary Newspapers, an educational journal, presented him with an �Educational Excellence Award� at their joint Fifth Awards Ceremony, held at the Golden Tulip, in Kumasi. The former President was given a crystal plaque, which was received on his behalf by the Nkosuohene of Asanteman, Nana Owusu Banahene. According to the organizers, the eight years of his administration witnessed the introduction of bold policies and programmes that manifested in massive infrastructure development at the basic, senior high and tertiary levels of education. Additionally, he introduced interventions like the School Feeding Programme and the Capitation Grant to improve access to education. A Deputy Minister of Education, Mr Alex Kyeremeh, was also honoured. The All Nations International Development Agency, an NGO, Ghana Technology University College, Presbyterian University College, Ideal College and Action Remedial School were also recognized for their contribution to education. Nana Michael Ampong, Country Director of Micjoy Advertising, said premium should be put on Science and Technology Education because it catalyst for innovative and creative ideas. The nation must, therefore, commit more resources to these areas, he said, adding that, this was necessary to address its socio-economic challenges. Former President Kufuor, in a speech read by his representative, urged corporate bodies to do more to assist the development of education.
