Health authorities at the Koforidua Central Hospital in the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern region have debunked claims by some section of the public that the hospital facility has detected the deadly Ebola disease.
The Principal Nursing Officer in charge of OPD casualty at the hospital, Mrs Faustina Nana Boateng who spoke to the DAILY HERITAGE in an interview said the hospital detected only cholera outbreak, but not Ebola and four cholera patients from the municipality so far have been admitted.
According to the Principal Nursing Officer in charge of OPD Casualty of the hospital, Mrs Faustina Nana Boateng, the hospital has not detected Ebola virus even though there was a suspected case involving four patients who were rushed to the hospital with allegation of suspected Ebola symptoms.
She explained that the hospital immediately quarantined the four patients and had their blood samples taken to the laboratory. Confirmed report indicated that they were infected with cholera instead of Ebola.
According to her, the hospital has provided temporary structures in an isolated form to accommodate patients who are infected with cholera and Ebola diseases.
Mrs Boateng assured the public that proactive measures have been taken by the hospital authorities to deal with the Ebola disease anytime they detect the virus. She said the public should not panic at all about the Ebola disease.
Two of the patients, Asana Musah and Safura Musah explained to the reporter that they experienced fever, followed by vomiting and running which made them unconscious and subsequently rushed to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben, Dr Kwaku Owusu Acheampong has stated that the assembly would soon embark on operation exercise to prosecute all landlords who have no toilet facility in their homes.
He said the assembly in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service is also educating the public on the need to observe personal hygiene.
There is cholera outbreak in the national capital, Accra in which fifteen cholera patients are reported dead, out of about 200 new cases in the Accra Metropolis.
The Greater Accra region has recorded a total of 878 cholera cases with the metropolis alone recording 604 of the cases and eight deaths. Some 15 persons were declared dead in the month of June, this year.
