Ex-Convict On Jail For Stealing

A 22 year-old illegal miner has been sentenced to four years imprisonment for stealing one excavator indler part valued at 1,800 Ghana cedis. Kwaku Mensah who had earlier been sentenced for committing a similar offence pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Edward Paddy told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant Mr. Samuel Narku is a trader who deals in excavator spare parts in Tarkwa. He said on Friday July 11 at about around 0130 hours Madam Rita Boakye, a landlady to the complainant, heard dogs barking for several hours on her compound. She called Robert Badason, a friend who stays nearby, on phone that thieves had entered her compound. Badason went to Madam Boakyes compound and assisted her to walk around the shop but they did not see any one around. He said Badason, using torchlight to search around, found the complainants excavator indler part in a nearby gutter and they also saw Kwaku Mensah with a taxi to convey the stolen item. The Prosecutor said they questioned the convict as to how he came by the excavator indler part but he did not give any tangible reason and was therefore arrested and sent to the police station with the help of the taxi driver.
