TWO PERSONS, who forcibly broke into the warehouse of Vodafone Ghana Limited and made away with Foundation Fieldbus (FF) cables to the tune of GH�7,930 have been sentenced to a total jail term of 14 years by an Accra Circuit Court.
They were said to have broken a fence wall to create a way into the warehouse, but they were apprehended by a witness who spotted them packing the cables into a taxi cab. The convicts, Jibril Kassim, scrap dealer and Nsor Alfred, mason, reportedly stole 35 meters of 200/0.5 FF cables valued at GH�2,730.00 and a 40 meters of 400/0.5 FF cables worth GH�5,200, belonging to the aforementioned telecommunications company.
Both convicts were facing three charges � causing unlawful damage on count one, unlawful entry for count two and stealing for count three. The court, presided over by Francis Obiri found the accused persons guilty after the prosecution had brought enough evidence to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Jibril Kassim and Nsor Alfred were, therefore, sentenced to seven years each on count three, two years on count two and one year on count one, sentenced to run con-currently. The fact of the case according to the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Jubiok is that, the complainant is the community watchdog committee, at Adentan. Whilst the accused persons, Jibril Kassim and Nsor Alfred, both residents of new site, Adentan.
On June 28, 2014, at 2:00am, a member of the above committee, who lives behind the Vodafone Ghana company warehouse, spotted the accused persons folding cables in the dark. When he approached the accused persons, they told him the cables were given to them by one of the security men at the Vodafone warehouse. �The witness left the accused and went into his room to call the leader of the Watchdog Committee, informing him about the operations of the accused persons�, Inspector Jubiok told the court yesterday.
He added that, the leader of the group then mobilized his men to the scene but the accused persons had left the place, leaving the arranged cables at the scene. The complainants, however, put the accused under surveillance and at approximately 3:30am, the accused persons appeared at the scene with a taxi and started packing the cables.
�The complainants apprehended them together with the cables and handed them over to the police. During investigations, the scene was inspected and it was detected that the accused person caused damage to some parts of the fence wall by creating a large opening�. Continuing, he told the court that the accused persons admitted the offence in their caution statement.
