Stop Blaming President Mahama And .

The President of the Tongu Students Union at the University of Winneba, Mr. Godwin Awadetsi, has called on the critics of the President John Dramani Mahama led government to appreciate the efforts being made to solve the economic challenges the country is currently facing and stop blaming the President unnecessarily. Mr. Awadetsi said it was important for Ghanaians, particularly critics of the President, to understand that because the country had attained a middle income status, most of the support it used to enjoy would no more be there. Speaking in an interview with The Chronicle on the current economic situation at Mepe in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region, Mr. Awadetsi stressed that Ghanaians ought to praise President Mahama for his display of honesty and love for the nation, by telling Ghanaians the truth about the economy and the steps his government was taking to improve upon the economic situation. He observed that recent attacks on President Mahama on the economic situation in the country was not the best and that the critics should rather join hands with the government to find a lasting solution to the problem. He noted that it was the responsibility of every Ghanaian to pay his or her taxes to enable the government raise the necessary funds to solve our economic problems. I think a father would not have food and hide it whilst his children are hungry, and that is the point I am making that President Mahama would not deliberately make life more difficult for Ghanaians, he noted. In a related development, the North Dayi Constituency Treasurer and a Leading Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. George Sika, has also told The Chronicle the country is in a transitional period after being declared a middle income country a few years ago. This, he continued, meant that things would be very difficult initially before stabilizing. Mr. Sika pointed out that government under the leadership of President Mahama is working hard to restore the economy to normalcy and cautioned Nana Akuffo Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be more civil in his criticisms and that governance issues should not be reduced to individual attacks. He stressed that President Mahama should be given the needed support that would urge him to continue with what he described as good works of the government citing the upgrading of all regional hospitals with modern equipment. Mr. Sika continued that President Mahama must be commended for his boldness in taking national decisions such as the ongoing repair works on the Adomi Bridge, which was really in a bad condition due to the fact that since the first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah constructed the bridge over 50 years ago, no major repair works had been carried out. The Leading Member of the NDC and North Dayi Constituency Treasurer, said the removal of a number of schools under trees by the President ought to be commended rather than total condemnation as being experienced.
