Ban All Handshakes At Funerals

THE 2012 vice presidential candidate of the Convention Peoples Party, Nana Akosua Frimponmaa II is advocating a ban on all handshakes at funeral grounds as a preventive measure against the deadly Ebola viral disease. According to her, Ghanaians ought to be serious about the disease and tackle it before it gets out of hand should it find its way into the country. Below is the thought of Nana Akosua Frimponmaa II: Please my follow Ghanaians, lets be serious and treat this issue before it gets out of hand. Lets all take our destiny into our own hands as a people and as a nation to avoid any unfortunate catastrophe. First let me express my sympathies to our brothers and sisters across the continent who have fallen victim to this deadly virus. Our prayers are with the grieving families. As we sympathize with them, lets approach this virus with all the seriousness it deserves without our usual lip service. Looking at the attitude of the Ghanaian towards work and our sense of hygiene, an outbreak will be too serious a situation to fathom. In view of what is going on around us, common sense dictates that we start taking measures as though we already have the virus. On this note, let me take this forum to applaud the leadership style of the Minister of Education for being proactive in taking the decision to postpone the reopening of schools. Its my humble plea that we all as a people take immediate responsibility and take every precautionary measure. For if its not yet here with us, then not to be a prophetess of doom, its on its way, unless and until we sit up and go that extreme extra mile as a nation. Here are a few of the measures I propose as soon as possible ASAP, WITH ALL THE URGENCY IT NEEDS AND DESERVES. THAT in collaboration with the House of Chiefs, Queen Mothers and the entire assembly members, a directive should be given TODAY, that ALL HAND SHAKING AT FUNERAL GROUNDS BE BANNED UNTIL A LATER DATE. That, screening post be set up at each entry point whether legal or otherwise. That all assemblies should either provide a center ready to quarantine and treat all suspected cases. Where an ambulance be detailed to carry suspect to the well-equipped centers in the regions. ASAP (one way is to ask for the citizens to donate a place for such purpose. There are good Samaritans who will freely give their building for such purpose. This must be done as soon as practicable. And the last but not the least, lets all as a people send a petition to the international bodies to as a sense of urgency release the not yet tested drug, for us in Africa without any further delay. If its good for the developed countries it will be good for us. The virus will kill us anyway so what a better way to test on humans, than to test on the affected who are dying. The point is that we should all institute precautionary measures immediately in our work places, churches, homes and other public/private places that will check and control the spread of this deadly virus.
