Mahama, Listen To Dr. Nduom

As a means of preventing the country from being driven into a ditch, 2012 flag-bearer of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP,) Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, who has distinguished himself in both the field of politics and business, has been making certain recommendations on the fringes which, we see as good if indeed Ghana is to achieve its goal of having an even development. What makes his recommendations unique is the fact that he is not making them as a political or managerial neophyte but as someone whose successes as former minister of state and a businessman cannot be underestimated. THE evidence of his achievements as economic planning minister, energy minister, public sector reforms minister and all other government agencies which he was appointed to head are available for anyone who doubts his capabilities to see. The Single Spine Salary Pay Policy and the total transformation of the ministries are the least of his achievements whiles in public office under the erstwhile Kufuor administration. It is in the light of these that we deem it necessary that the Presidency of John Dramani Mahama sees the recommendations and national courses Dr. Nduom is championing as critical to the development of this country. Indeed, had the government of the NDC continued with the National Identification system which Dr. Nduom championed as Economic Planning Minister, Ghana would not have had problems with the taxation of its citizens as every single individual in this country would be in the records of the nation and hence would be traced. Also, the Electoral Commission (EC) and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIS) would not have specific identity system as it is the situation now. A common identification would have been carried by all Ghanaians, both the young and the old, and this would have further helped in the tracing of the criminal records of both the Ghanaian and the foreigner. Specific issues have also been raised by him in the energy, finance and local government sectors which, we are of the opinion that when considered, will go a long way to help with the smooth and fast development of the country. Lets avoid the level of greediness in the energy sector and like he says, the country with all its experts can develop an effective energy sector which would be capable of supporting our industrial sector. The election of local government representatives, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) which he has continuously been drumming home is also very necessary if indeed we want to promote and improve the decentralisation system we introduced in 1988. Give power to the people and see if the local government representatives would not work hard to ensure the development of their areas as a means of ensuring their re-election. Simply put: lets be progressive in our thinking and stop the political means of appointing local representatives since different districts and municipalities have different development needs. President Mahama, listen to Dr. Nduom and implement your own partys promise of ensuring the election of MMDCEs because the country is tired of having inexperienced local political party activists in charge of development at the local areas. We, however, want to urge Dr. Nduom to continue to emphasise his proposals since it would be unfair for him being an expert with the necessary knowledge about specific issues to keep quiet when things are going wrong in the field for which he has been trained. Of course, no mechanic would shut up when a machine breaks down and persons with little knowledge about the problems are contacted to offer a desperate help.
