An unemployed Nigerian who recruited a student from his country to Ghana to engage in prostitution was on Wednesday sentenced to five years imprisonment by a Circuit Court in Accra. Favour Victory is said to have taken daily sales ranging from GH₡ 80.00 and GH₡ 120.00 from the 17 �year- old student whom she trafficked. Charged with human trafficking, Victory pleaded not guilty. However, the court presided over by Ms Sedina Agbemava at the end of the trial found Victory guilty on the charge and convicted her accordingly. Prosecuting Chief Inspector Samuel Sarkwah told the court that the convict engaged in prostitution in Ghana, made sales between GH₡ 50.00 and GH₡ 80.00. Prosecution said somewhere in June last year, Victory visited Delta State in Nigeria where the complainant used to live with the victim and recruited her with the intent of taking her to Ghana to take care of her shop and place her into secondary school. Chief Inspector Sarkwah said Victory therefore managed to bring the victim to Ghana and took her to Adabraka a suburb in Accra and bought her provocative dresses to wear thereby pushing her into prostitution. According to the prosecutor, this practice persisted for some time when the victim could no longer provide services to clients and rebelled against Victory. Victory who did not take kindly to the victim�s acts subjected her to severe beatings. On November 9, last year, a Good Samaritan confronted her and Victory was arrested. The prosecution said Victory, was escorted to Anti- Human Trafficking Unit at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigations. During investigations, the prosecutor said on November 13, last year, four unused condoms, two used tissues papers, provocative dresses and used condoms were found in Victory�s room.
