10 Suspected Armed Robbers Arrested In U/W

The Upper West Regional Police Command has apprehended 10 suspected armed robbers who were operating in various parts of the region. The suspects include five Ghanaians and five burkinabs believed to be Fulani men. They are; Aljimah Yahaya, 28, who has been on the Police wanted list since 2010, Jalu Haruna, 27, Soro Adams, 22, Sambo Fuseini, 34 and Ingah Yussif ,36 all Fulanis. The rest are, 31-year-old Inusah Osman, also on police wanted list, Iddirisu Imoro, Fatawu Yakubu, Fuseini Muntari and Inusah Abdul-Rahaman, the Ghanaian nationals. The Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kwesi Mensah Duku, briefing the media after an identification parade at the forecourt of the regional Police headquarters in Wa said, the suspects were arrested in separate operations embarked on by his men following an upsurge of robbery incidence in the region. He mentioned that commuters along the Wa-Han-Tumu road, the Wa-KajukperiWahabu-road and the Wa township were the worst affected by the operations of the robbers. DCOP Kwesi Duku said five of the suspected robbers have been remanded in prison custody awaiting trial while the other five are in Police custody assisting investigations. He appealed to the public to assist the Police by volunteering information on suspected criminals in the region. Security is a shared responsibility therefore, all stakeholders are requested to get on board to combat crime in the municipality and the region as a whole, he said. The Commander assured residents that the Police are working hard to nib crime in the bud. According to him, his men have intensified vehicle and foot patrols, increased visibility and snap check points as well as constructed four additional police posts in strategic parts of the region, all in a bid to combat crime. That notwithstanding, DCOP Kwesi Duku lamented over the failure of the public to volunteer information to the Police and assist in investigations. Getting information from the community is very difficult and hinders investigations. Some citizens know these criminals, staying with them yet they will not inform the police until these criminals turn on them, he said. This coupled with undue delays in the criminal justice system according to the Regional Commander poses a major challenge in the fight against crime in the Upper West region and the courts in this region at times use the slightest chance or technicality to discharge criminals and they come back to society more hardened.
