Miss Tourism Ghana 2013, Jessica Jemila Kawra, who will be launching the �Saving the environment through recycling� project has observed that the environment has become a very critical issue in Ghana, and if care is not taken..., ...Ghana will become the last destination site for tourist and the country�s goal to make tourism the number one income earner will go down the drain. The project seeks to sensitize the youth on the effects of the environment on tourism and teach them how to be creative with recycling material. �Ghana has historically attracted a lot of tourists largely due to her role in the slave trade and the many useful tourist sites dotted across the country. However we stand to laugh at the wrong sides of our mouths if we do not take the management of the environment and these tourist sites seriously�, she said. She said she felt obliged to do her bit to curb the menace, and she finds the recycling as a key factor in that process. Miss Kawra made the remarks when she paid a courtesy call on the Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Oforipanin I. The Okyehene on his part expressed his disappointment with the poor management of the environment and how it looked like Ghanaians did not care about the environment. The Okyehene Foundation has been one of the active organizations that has over the years embarked on a series of activities aimed at curbing the fast rate of environmental neglect. As an environment ambassador himself, the Okyehene said he would support Miss Tourism Ghana�s project in any way he can to make sure that the laudable idea is heard across the country. The Project will be launched on September 4. The �Saving the environment through recycling� project is supported by Kenpong Travel and Tours, Airtel Ghana and Holiday Inn Hotel and the Ministry of Tourism.
