Two bodies have so far been retrieved from the Daboya River following a search embarked upon by the Marine Police personnel and a local search party on Wednesday morning. The two have been identified as Abdul Aziz Abdulai 12 and Firdauz Abdulai 14, children of the Daboya Police Station Officer, Inspector Abdulai Alhassan Muniru. The police officer who was on his way back to his station with the children was earlier rescued from the water with one of his three children when the accident occurred last Tuesday. The marine team have meanwhile intensified their search for the rest of the missing passengers. According to the Deputy Northern Regional Police Commander, Mr. Akofi Edward Johnson who led the team to the area on Wednesday, a total of 13 passengers were in the boat. He explained that, five persons were rescued earlier on the day of the incident while four were saved later. �So at the moment our men are searching for the two remaining passengers.� The yet to be found persons are suspected to be a butcher and his son. The arrival of the three-man marine police officers was in response to the distress call by the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna to the Police to help retrieve the bodies of the remaining passengers who got missing when their boat capsized in the middle of the Daboya River last Tuesday morning. The accident occurred when the passengers who were mainly traders were on their way to the market in Tamale on Tuesday. They however missed the Tamale bound bus after successfully crossing the river. On their way back home with their goods, they encountered a windstorm that preceded a heavy downpour in some parts of the Northern Region on Tuesday morning. Upon reaching the middle of the river, the boat gave way to the storm and capsized. Rescuers quickly rushed into the River and were able to save only the five traumatised persons.
