The Founder and General Overseer of Glorious Word and Power Ministries International, Rev. Owusu Bempah has expressed his utmost disapproval for any man of God to sanction secular music to be played at Christians gatherings especially during wedding ceremonies. The controversial priest believes if the practice is condoned by pastors it would rather throw the reverence of God to the mud and rather defeat the purpose of service to our Maker. Rev. Owusu Bempah made the observation in an exclusive interview with The Popular in the wake of criticisms being poured on the door steps of the gospel minister, Sonnie Badu who meticulously danced to Kwabena Kwabena�s adult music during his wedding in London last weekend. The Ghanaian gospel musician exchanged marital vows with his long time girl friend Ann-Marie Davis, but the ceremony has been preceded by uncharitable comments for using the time to promote an ungodly gesture. The prophet who was splitting with anger stung the patrons of the ceremony, �as Christians we have power to do everything but let�s be mindful if it would honour God, our Creator. The church is a sacred place to worship God. We have to ensure we give honour to God no matter the occasion, especially during a wedding ceremony. In the Old Testament, these men of God went through a whole lot of ritual before they get the opportunity to commune with God on behalf of the Israelites. So we have to ensure we make the reverence of God prevail in our daily Christian life. So it would have been better if Sonnie Badu had opted for a gospel song�. Asked if he would fault the officiating ministers, Rev. Owusu Bempah was hesitant to make firm comments on the questions, but added he would never approve secular music play in any gathering in the name of God. He stated that if weddings and other Christian programmes are held out side the church, playing secular music at such functions would be an untoward practice. �I won�t even approve secular music to be played outside the church for gospel programmes. Such music has the vibe to entice patrons to indulge in so many bad acts including wee smoking, drunkenness and promiscuity�, he underscored. Rev. Owusu Bempah however conceded that some secular music has good message to change people for the better but playing them at Christian functions can not be approved. The award winning gospel musician Sonnie Badu has been critical of fellow local based gospel musicians for their style and contents of their songs. He is yet to officially explain why he opted to play secular music at his wedding while he could have played gospel tunes including his own ones. Meanwhile the musician is alleged to have asked what is wrong with him dancing to the Adult Music tunes after a fan has asked if indeed he danced to the secular music on a social media chat. According to reports the ceremony was officiated by Rev. Dr. Victor Osei of the Family Chapel and Pastor Kingsley Appiagyei of the Trinity Baptist Church, while big guns in the person of Ibrahim Mahama (President Mahama�s brother) and mining magnate, Sam Jonah, attended. The musician and his wife danced to the secular music during a reception after the wedding in London.
