The on-going construction work on the Sogakope-Mafi Dove Junction road has been met with a hostile resistance by residents of communities along Mafi Dove and Devime areas as well as commuters in the Central Tongu District of the Volta region. The Sogakope-Mafi Dove main junction road connects to the Devime, Mepe-Degorme-Battor and Sege road. The charged residents and commuters who complained bitterly about the shoddy nature of work being carried on the road said the contractor was not following due processes in constructing the road. Information gathered so far by Today from the residents indicated that work on the road begun in July 2014, but several appeals to the contractor to excavate parts of the road within Dove and Devime townships have been ignored. The Department of Urban Roads is currently executing the project due to various calls to the government through the Central Tongu District Assembly to have the road constructed. Speaker-after-speaker noted that their reason for the contractor to excavate the road within the said towns stemmed from the fact that parts of that stretch of road was muddy. According to the residents, they also drew the attention of the contractor to the poorly built culverts and bridges, which according to them, could easily be washed away anytime there was a heavy downpour on the road. They pointed out that �during the construction of the road linking Battor and Mepe under the regime of former President Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, the chiefs and people of the two towns made similar request to the contractor due to the muddy nature of the areas. ��and the request of the chiefs and people was granted by the contractor which outcome has contributed to the long life span of that road,� they indicated. To this end, the residents appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene in the matter to avert any confrontation.
