Gabby: They Can Contest Nana Addo If They Think They Are Up For It

Former Executive Director of the Danquah Institute has urged the remaining three candidates running against the two-time Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, to press on with their quest to lead the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2016 general election, if they think they are up for it. In a post on his Facebook wall, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko stated: "five candidates were cleared for October congress. One has dropped. Don't pressure any other candidate to step down. Run if you are up to it and up for it. ...Let there be a contest, whether by acclamation or ballot, a flagbearer will be elected, and very soon. Oct 18 is just around the corner. No rush." His appeal comes in the wake of suggestions that, given the fact that Nana Akufo-Addo was able to win 598 votes out of the 741 total valid ballots cast, the remaining three candidates should throw in the towel by endorsing Nana Akufo-Addo just as Joe Ghartey has done. This campaign is being lead by a founder-member of the New Patriotic Party, Akenten Appiah-Menkah. To him, it would do the candidates and the party a lot of good by stepping down from contesting in the upcoming Delegates' Congress on the 18th of October this year. By so doing, he says, it would save the party money and their political future in the party would be secured. But Gabby Asare-Otchere Darko would not want any candidate to be pushed into taking decisions against their will but further urged them to continue fighting to be flagbearer if they are still up to it.
