Ashgold Stun Kotoko To Reach Top Four Final

Ashgold Wednesday advanced to the finals of this years GHALCA Top Four competition with a 1-0 victory over Asante Kotoko in a second leg clash at the Len Clay Stadium, Obuasi on Wednesday. The Miners beat the Porcupine Warriors 1-0 in the first leg of the competition and sailed through to the finals on a 2-0 goal aggregate. They would therefore pitch their strength against the winner of the Hearts of Oak-Heart of Lions encounter in the grand finale, scheduled for Kumasi on September 7. Ashgold spearheaded in attack by Emmanuel Osei and Francis Adjei, almost fetched the opener in the 16th minute but goalkeeper Felix Annan put up a splendid performance to save the situation. The homers kept probing and their efforts yielded results as Tijani Joshua broke the deadlock in the 28th minute to give them the advantage. At this stage, Kotoko changed strategy, using the flanks more often, but found it difficult to penetrate the Ashgold defence. Kotoko resumed the second half on a serious note, piling more pressure on their opponents to level the scoring but failed to get past the Miners' defence which was centred on Rasheed Mohammed, Amos Owusu and Eric Opoku. Richard Mpong and Obed Owusu came close to equalizing for the Porcupine Warriors in the 57th and 88th minutes, respectively, but wasted the chances that came their way to end the match.
