The Magistrates Court at Agona Swedru has imposed a fine of 120 Ghana Cedis on Sinapi Aba Savings and Loans Company for insanity condition at it premises. The Court presided over by Mr Isaac Apeatu ordered the company to abate the nuisance and liaise with the Environmental Health and Sanitation Department of Agona West Assembly to dislodge the toilet with immediate effect. Prosecuting, Mr John K. Nyameah, an Officer of the Agona West Environmental Health Department told the court that in spite of the public education embarked upon by the Assembly, the company failed to keep its premises clean. Mr Nyameah said the company had connected a PVC pipe from its Septic tank into the public drain to allow the effluent flow freely whenever the tank was filled. A team of Environmental Health Officers came across the business premises over flowing effluent which had been willfully allowed by the company into the public drain leading eventually into the Akora River, the prosecutor said. The Prosecutor told the court that the nefarious acts were some of contributory factors of epidemic outbreaks including cholera and diarrhea, which has hit Agona Swedru recently claiming about five lives. The court cautioned the public to desist from filthy practices that could escalate the cholera outbreak situation.
