Awutu-Effutu-Senya NHIA Suspends Operation

The Awutu-Effutu-Senya National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has temporary suspended operation to enable it update its system. According to a statement pasted on the Notice Board of the authority at their office at Winneba on Wednesday, the temporary shutdown began on September 4 and would end on September 9. The Public Relation Officer of the Authority, Mr Richard Odonkor, confirmed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Winneba. Mr Odonkor said the shutdown had become very necessary to update the system that had become slow due to more schemes that had been brought to the system. He said more Regions were doing registration resulting in struggling for contact to the National System at the NHIS headquarters in Accra. A visit to the NHIA office in Winneba showed congestion at the premises and clients had to go through a hectic procedure before registering for the bio-metrically. Clients, mostly women with their babies, had to be in queue from 0300 hours to be able to obtain the card and they complained this was affecting their daily activities.
