Jonathan Mensah has been defending his international teammates over the question whether they are obsessed with making money rather than achieving football results for Ghanaians, insisting that playing for Ghana is not all about making money. The Evian Thoulon defender was furious at the suggestion by a journalist at a GFA press conference on Sunday morning at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. �I don�t think we are greedy because we don�t play for the money, we love our country and it�s a pride to wear the national jersey. But any country, apart from Ghana all pay their national team players and we cannot be an exception,� Mensah said. The defender who personally has severally made donations to orphanages and the aged in the past, was even more furious with the suggestion that the players could decide to donate their bonuses to charities to demonstrate that they really are not greedy. �We do this all the time without getting any instructions from the media, management or anyone. So if you say we should give our bonuses to charities, I don�t get it. I don�t think if we do that, it can change our performance on the field or not,� Mensah stated. �It�s our prerogative to give our money out or not. We understand your [Ghanaians] frustrations because when we are happy the nation is happy. If we lose, we are not happy and the nation is also not happy. When we went to the World Cup and lost two games and drew one, we did not get any bonus� Jonathan said.
