Supporters Boos and Catcalls Characterises Black Stars' AFCON 2015 Qualifier Against Uganda

One main reason why the Ghana Football Association [GFA] opted for the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi for Black Stars matches is due to the citys unflinching support for the Senior National team. However, the reason submerged last Saturday when diehard supporters of the Black Stars turned against the team in their Orange Africa Cup of Nations 2015 qualifiers opener in Kumasi against the Cranes of Uganda. The team was booed right from the blast of the whistle when the game commenced to the end of the game by sections of the fans who hailed the Ugandans whenever they made dangerous incursions into the Stars half. According to the soccer fanatics, memories of a miserable World Cup outing in Brazil last June are still fresh in their minds especially as the Presidential Inquiry is investigating factors that contributed to the poor performance. Initially, the fans vowed not to patronize the match even at the point when the Youth and Sports Minister had ordered a free gate to all supporters willing to watch to match. A tough determined Ugandan side picked a vital point against the Black Stars after taking the lead on the stroke of half time. The downhearted Stars needed a controversial penalty in the second half to be on level-terms with the Ugandans after an extraordinary performance from the Cranes. However, assistant coach of the Black Stars, Maxwell Konadu has expressed worried with the fans behavior. He opined that Boos and the jeers from the fans affected the Black Stars very well.
