A fetish priest at Bosore near Kenyasi in the Ashanti Region, Nana Kwadwo Boateng, popularly known as Saaman Komfuo or Dumgya Komfuo, was the toast of a large crowd that converged in the town during the commissioning of a police station on Friday.
The fetish priest stunned the people, including DCOP Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, as he stormed the venue of the event to present a Toyota 4�4 vehicle to the police.
The crowd, including traditional leaders and the police capos, jumped from their seats in jubilation as Saaman Komfuo and his aides drove the new vehicle to the event ground.
The vehicle, according to him, was to be used by the police for their patrol activities to help reduce crime in the region.
Addressing the crowd, Nana Kwadwo Boateng said the presentation of the vehicle was his widow�s mite to help make the police in their patrol duties so that they could deal with miscreants who indulge in lawlessness to disturb other people.
The fetish priest, who is said to be very powerful spiritually, urged the well-to-do in society to follow his shining example by assisting the police in diverse ways to deal with criminals to foster peace and enhance development in the country.
The police station was constructed by a philanthropist, Mr. Owusu Afre, owner of Hafia Hotel in Kumasi, to help reduce the crime rate in the area. The chiefs in the town also offered the land for the project.
In his address, DCOP Kofi Boakye said the democratic dispensation which Ghana had opted for, could not flourish if the police and the other security agencies were not active, urging the public to support the security agencies to deliver.
He admonished the populace to be law abiding, reminding them that the police cell was not made for a particular class in society but for everyone, �whether rich or poor.� He stressed, �We are all equal before the law and so if you break the law the police will arrest you.�
MP for Kwabre East, Kofi Frimpong, expressed gratitude to the philanthropist, saying that the presence of the police station in the town and its environs would help boost the security situation.
Nana Oduro Agyeman, Kenyasi Nkosuohene, who was the chairman of the occasion, called for public support for the police to help maintain law and order in the country, stressing that �those who hate the police are criminals.�
DCE of the area, Adams Iddisa, in his succinct remarks, thanked the chiefs of Kenyasi for their benevolence and urged all and sundry to cooperated with the police.
