Court Grants Bail To Alleged Fake Doctor

The Accra Circuit Court �4�, sitting at the Land Court, has granted bail to Richard Owusu Nyarko, a.k.a. Dr Owusu, after he was charged with the offences of impersonation, forgery of stamp, attempt to commit crime, and falsely pretending to be a public officer. Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) A.A. Annor told the court, presided over by His Lordship M.E. Essandoh, that the suspect posed as a Resident Surgeon at the 37 Military Hospital and told the complainant he could assist him get a job at the Swedish Ghana Medical Centre at East Legon. The complainant in the process gave out his Curriculum Vitae (CV), an application letter, and certified true copies of his certificates and a photocopy of his provisional Medical License to the accused to facilitate the job seeking process. Dr Owusu consequently tried to use the documents to seek employment as a permanent medical doctor at a private health facility at Madina, demanding a down payment of GH₵20,000. The complainant got hint of the alleged fraud attempt after a doctor friend alerted him upon suspicion. The accused was then picked up by the police and arraigned before court. He has been granted bail to reappear in court on September 24, 2014. Police investigations revealed that Richard Owusu Nyarko is a nurse, and not a medical doctor. A search in his room at a hostel revealed a stamp with the inscription �Dr Richard Kwadwo Owusu (Snr. Medical Officer), Kuntenase Government Hospital, Bosomtwe-Ashanti� and assorted documents, including prescription forms from the Ministry of Health and a private clinic in Accra.
