The Volta Regional Police administration has charged over 30 drivers of commercial vehicles for various traffic offences.
The move on Monday forms part of a quarterly Special Motor Check, embarked on by top officials of the police service in the region.
Some drivers had their license seized for various traffic offenses in an unannounced road check which was conducted on the Dawenya � Aflao road.
The Director General of the Police Public Affairs Department in the Volta Region, DCOP David Ampah Bennin told Citi News the exercise will continue unannounced to check drivers.
�Ghanaian drivers are good drivers, but undisciplined. That is what we are checking. They must stop it. They know what is good, but they won�t do it so we are not going to spare anyone we have arrested. And we are coming again. It�s going to be a periodic exercise.�
He however urged all drivers to conduct themselves well because they would have themselves to blame when found culpable.
Some passengers who spoke to Citi news said such exercises make them feel safe.
Meanwhile a similar exercise was carried out by the Ashanti Regional Police Command on the Kumasi-Accra highway on Monday.
According to the National Road Safety Commission, at least 26,621 lives were lost through road accidents from January 2000 to September 2013, while about 70, 000 people sustained various degrees of injury within the same period.
