Tension In Kasoa

Tension is brewing in Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East District of the Central region over what has been described as illegal movement by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area, Mr. Adam Nuhu, to build market stores on the Odupongkpehe M.A. Basic Schools land. Residents of the area have described the situation as a dormant volcano that could result in a bloodbath if urgent attention is not taken by the central government to intervene in the matter. Even though security is tight at the area, the fear among residents of the area in respect to the latest development has heightened tension. Snippets of information available to Today indicated that residents, particularly the youth of the area, have vowed to fiercely resist any attempt(s) by the MCE to build the market stores on the school land. The angry youth, Today gathered, are preparing to demonstrate against the DCE in the coming days. Some of the angry residents who spoke to this paper via telephone yesterday called on people in Kasoa to rise up and save Odupongkpehe M.A. Basic Schools land. According to them, the DCE has contracted Obolo Real Estate developer to construct market stores on the schools land. They further alleged that the DCE has his own private school just a few meters away from the Odupongkehe M.A. Basic schools and asked: so why not build the market stalls on his school compound but on public school compound? This is not acceptable anywhere and people must rise up against this act by the DCE of Kasoa, the angry residents added. the main aim of his [DCEs] action is to make the public school unpopular so that parents will transfer their wards to his school, the residents stressed. The DCE, the residents pointed out, was also working hard to ensure the transfer of the education director at the municipality. Pictorial evidence, according to the residents, was available to show the level of construction works ongoing at the Odupongkpehe M.A. Basic Schools in Kasoa. When Today contacted Mr. Nuhu, he confirmed that his outfit was responsible for the ongoing project on the Odupongkpehe Schools, but failed to comment on the issue further. I know it was the National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in the area who have brought this issue to your newspaper. I will not comment now on the matter until schools reopen, Mr. Nuhu fumed.
