The Mass Action Committee (MAC) on Wednesday bemoaned the slow pace of the restructuring of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA). Addressing a press conference in Accra, Mr Atik Mohammed, Spokesperson of MAC, said President John Mahama last year called for the speedy restructuring of the GYEEDA, coordinated by Mr Kobby Acheampong, but it was yet to receive full compliance leading to the stagnation of all GYEEDA activities at all levels. He said it is still unknown to the public the level at which the passage of the GYEEDA bill had reached, as well other important tasks such as a holistic modular audit. Mr Mohammed said the problem of youth unemployment is an issue of concern to every Ghanaian, thus interventions such as GYEEDA ought to be given the deserved commitment and attention by all those entrusted with the responsibility to make it work. �We recognize the passion of the President, whose show of commitment to the GYEEDA project is beyond doubt, to as a matter of urgent necessity, call on the National Coordinator to quicken his pace in the reform process, and that, timelines must be given to him within which to conclude the restructuring process,� he said. He also appealed to the President to ensure that, the value for money audit on the various modules are carried out in the shortest possible time to allow GYEEDA to at least, in the interim, start rolling out some of its original modules such as the Health Assistants and Community Teaching modules whose services are critical and are in high demand. Mr Mohammed also urged the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations to exercise its supervisory role over GYEEDA to the fullest for effective and efficient running of the Agency. He however warned that MAC would take the next appropriate action if its appeal failed to yield the needed results in the next two weeks.
