Following the loss of precious lives in some parts of West Africa caused by the Ebola infection, the Builsa South District Chief Executive (DCE), Elizabeth Jane Afuik, has imposed a ban on the sale of bush meat in the district. According to her, claims by medical experts on one other way by which the Ebola virus spreads � from animals to human beings � had informed the ban and consumption of bush meat. She said the measure could make people avoid contracting the deadly epidemic. Elizabeth Jane Afuik announced the ban after a cleanup exercise in some selected areas of the newly created district in the Upper East Region. The climax of the exercise was education on the symptoms of Ebola and how it spreads and kills people infected within a short time. She has called for continuous education by community health workers and volunteers as well as religious leaders and everyone who has gained some knowledge about the Ebola Virus. The cleanup exercise was a response to President Mahama�s call on all Municipal and District Chief Executives to initiate periodic cleanup exercises in their areas to prevent a possible cholera outbreak. Ms Afuik charged members of the various communities in the district to ensure that the ban on the sale and consumption of bush meat was strictly adhered to, adding that if the people fail to comply and the Ebola infection enters the district, everyone will suffer the consequence. The Builsa South District Assembly has unanimously declared the first Saturday of every month as a cleanup day to keep the district clean.
