A total of 138 students have been offered admission to pursue various Master�s Programmes at the Wa campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS) in the Upper West Region this academic year.
They are made up of 119 males and 19 females who form the first batch of postgraduate students who will have their lectures at the Wa campus at the Faculties of Integrated Development Studies, Planning and Land Management, Education and the Schools of Business and Law.
The courses will be run as sandwich programmes.
Formerly, students had to travel to the Tamale campus to attend lectures. In addition, 38 undergraduate sandwich diploma students have also been admitted to the Faculty of Agriculture programme which was introduced last year with nine students.
Advice to students
Professor Gabriel Teye, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the UDS, who announced this during the matriculation ceremony at Wa, reminded them that their presence on campus was for academic pursuit and not for politicking.
"Your primary purpose of being here is academic pursuit, so I will urge you to be circumspect in the social activities you involve yourself in. You may exercise your rights as students but be mindful that those rights and privileges are regulated by the rules of this university," he said.
In his welcome speech, Prof. F.Z.L. Bacho, Dean of Students of the UDS stated that he was not happy about the few number of female students who constituted 14 per cent of those pursuing the various postgraduate degree programmes. Prof. Bacho expressed the hope that more females would apply to the Wa campus of the university, since it has faculties to make their stay comfortable.
