I Got GH₵1,000 For World Cup Site Web Developer

The man who developed ghanatobrazil2014.com for the Sports Ministry has said that he was paid only ₵1,000 to develop the website. Elly Evans, the CEO of Dominion Technologies, told the Presidential Commission investigating Ghanas participation at the Brazil 2014 World Cup that he took the job because of his love for the country and not the amount of money he stood to gain from the project. The Sports Ministry said it had budgeted Gh₵22,857,000 for the development of a website and an app as part of efforts to whip up enthusiasm and provide information about Ghanas World Cup participation. According to Evans, he was offered GH₵ 5000 to develop Ghanatobrazil2014.com, but only GH₵1000 has been paid. The Minister sent me a thousand Ghana cedis on the day Ghana played the USA. I had sent him a message in Brazil that my plug-ins had not been paid for and he sent me that amount of money. The amount almost covered the cost of the plug-ins I bought when I did my calculations, he said. He said his job was to redesign the website and make it functional for use during the World Cup after an earlier one by another developer failed to impress the project committee. According to Evans, two members of the committee, Mr Larry Acheampong and Mr Kwesi Taylor, asked him at a meeting on April 28, 2014 to scrap the old website and create a new one within three days. He said he accordingly presented the new design to the committee on May 1, prompting a highly impressed Mr Taylor to give him GH50 for a drink. Evans was invited to the commission after former Youth and Sports Minister, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, revealed during his testimony that GH22,857 was spent on the development of the website and Apps. The figure formed part of GH4,509,635 raised from corporate entities and individuals to send supporters to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
