Man Arrested For Defrauding Six People

A 27-year-old man, alleged to have defrauded six persons on the pretext of helping them gain recruitment into the Ghana Police Service has been arrested. The suspect, David Nii Odoi, who claims to be a civilian employee of the Ghana Prisons Service, was said to have defrauded one of the victims of GH2,000 and in some cases provided enlistment letters and prospectus to his victims. The Accra Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Paul Kontonmah, said Odoi was arrested after the mother of a victim lodged a complaint at the Odorkor Police Station in Accra. He said the mother of the victim reported to the police that Odoi, who claimed he could assist her child to be enlisted in the Ghana Police Service had absconded after taking GH2,000 from her. The suspect had been introduced to Madam Blankson as a person who could help her child get enlisted in the Ghana Police Service and subsequently they had several meetings with the victim and the mother, he said. Examination slip After one of the meetings the suspect was said to have requested, the birth certificate and WASSCE slip of the child. Odoi was said to have given the victim and the mother the assurance that he would use the birth certificate and results slip to facilitate the process of securing the victims enlistment. Later, Odoi allegedly presented a prospectus purported to have been issued by the Police Service for eligible candidates to the mother of the victim. However after buying the items listed in the prospectus, the mother waited for weeks in vain for her child to start the training. Madam Blankson then tried to contact Odoi on his cellphone but it was switched off so she became suspicious about the transaction. Further investigations conducted showed that the prospectus was not issued by the Police Service as Odoi had claimed. Mr Kontoma said on September 8, 2014, the police arrested the suspect at Mallam Junction in Accra and during interrogation, he admitted taking money from five others.
