National Media Commission (NMC) and the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) have counselled journalists to keep safe from assaults and attacks while doing their job. The two institutions have also asked employers in the news reporting business to ensure their staff are trained on how to prevent attacks from the public. The NMC and GJA�s advice was made at a joint press conference yesterday in response to three different cases of assault on journalists in their line of duty this month. The latest case, which is in court, involves Afia Pokua, Adom FM News Editor, and two other Adom FM reporters. The three were attacked at the Ablekuma branch of the National Health Insurance Scheme office. They were investigating a case of delays in biometric registration for the scheme. NMC and GJA have condemned all three attacks. They have promised to take the attacks on the journalists to the appropriate quarters for redress, although specifics were not provided. They say they will take each of the three cases on their merit. The bodies also asked journalists to be professional in their conduct at all times.
