'Punish People Who Spend State Monies - Methodist Bishop

The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church at Obuasi, Rt. Reverend Stephen Ayensu Bosomtwe has called for stringent punishment for leaders who are causing financial loss to the state. He is calling for a series of steps, beginning with their interdiction, followed by a forensic audit and possible prosecution to serve as a deterrent for others. "Ghana is not poor, but some people are spending state monies for their own selfish interest and as a result making Ghanaians look like poor people so I am calling for the interdiction of these leaders if they are found guilty, Rev Ayensu pleaded on Tuesday September 16, 2014. The reverend minister was speaking on Adom FM following media reports that over $200,000 had been blown on rent for the Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Ms Lauretta Lamptey. Appalled by the report, Rev Ayensu described the situation as "unfortunate", noting that the monies spent by these leaders can be used for developmental works in the country. "If we have such money, why are we going to the IMF for bailout," he wondered. Rt. Rev Stephen Ayensu Bosomtwe therefore called on leaders to be circumspect adding that the Church cannot sit down unconcerned while the country goes through trying times. If we continue like this in the country, it will not help us in the near future so we as Christians need to add our voices to it to help build our nation he stressed.
