Alan K And Addai-Nimoh Can Back Out If Congress Date Is Too Close - Sir John

Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has asked Alan Kyerematen and Francis Addai-Nimoh, the two contenders other flagbearer aspirants challenging Nana Akufo Addo to step down if they feel there is not enough time for them to convince the delegates before the October 18 Congress. The two Presidential hopefuls, have reportedly asked the partys leadership to postpone the October 18 delegates congress to elect a flagbearer. The duo are of the view that, the time frame given for the elections is not appropriate and have threatened to seek extension from the court if their plea to the party leadership fail. But reacting to the issue on Okay Fms Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Sir John as he is popularly called, said the elders of the party thought it wise to schedule the National Delegates Congress date in October 18 in order not to conflict with the Assembly elections in December this year. He however maintained that all the Presidential aspirants counted their cost before deciding to contest the race; adding the argument will go on if audience is granted to their plea as those in the Super Delegates Congress can demand for the same chance since that time too was short for campaigning. He insisted that the aspirants knew the Presidential Primaries will be done before the end of the year and so asking for change of date can trigger breach of the partys constitution in case of a runoff. Some have also argued that if the date is changed from October to December and there is runoff, it will enter into next year; will that not amount to breaching the Constitution of the party? A good General Secretary worth its sort should factor the possibility of runoff when picking date for the National Delegates Congress..I listened to Alan Kyerematen in his campaign launch and he said he has total control of the grassroots and so I dont see why he should be afraid even if the election is conducted tomorrow because he is sure of winning the Presidential Primaries..nobody has forced anyone to contest the flagbearer race but if they feel the date is too short for campaign, they can step down and the party will be grateful to them, he stated. Sir John however cautioned them to desist from the same argument they exhibited in 2010 during the Presidential Primaries.
