NDC Cadres Join Debate Calling For CHRAJ Commissioners Resignation

The United Cadres Front (UCF) of the National Democratic Congress has joined the debate calling for the resignation of Ms Lauretta Lamptey, Commissioner for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ). A statement signed by Mr Camillus Maalneriba-Tia Sakzeesi, UCF Deputy General Secretary, and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Friday said the cadres have followed with much indignation, the revelation that the Commissioner had allegedly spent a whooping $ 203,500 on rent spanning 37 months as revealed by the Daily Graphic of Tuesday, September 16, 2014. We have equally monitored her attempt at justifying the expenditure which is rather disappointing to the ordinary Ghanaian. We take serious exception to this development and wish to state with the needed emphasis that Ms. Lamptey, has no moral grounds to stand on - holding herself as the Commissioner to the entity. We are of this opinion because the position is so unique that people placed in that anti-corruption authority should be the last to be seen getting themselves involved in acts that bring it to public disrepute, the statement said. It said the UCF condemns these reckless acts of impunity where the peoples wealth are spent without moral compunction. And to us we think the Commissioner has no morality left in her to hang on to the position and must as a matter of necessity resign now, the statement said. We equally with to appeal to the various state investigative entities to take up the matter by investigating it further to find out how the contract was awarded and if found that some acts of criminality influenced the award of the contract and the hotel accommodation, officers involved be dealt with accordingly. We wish to express further, our disgust at citizens who have been entrusted with positions of trust to serve us but who have with some sort of consistency - abused the trust. It said due to these insulting behaviour of some servants of the state, we are left with no option but to call on the Presidency and some other statutory appointing authorities to sanitize state institutions by making sure that appointments are given to people who are ready to serve selflessly for beautiful mother-Ghana. The UCF commends the Daily Graphic which broke the news and other media houses who did the follow-ups and informed the citizenry, it stated.
