We Need Rawlings Back...He Was Chosen By God

An aspirant for the greater Accra regional chairmanship of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Stephen Akwetey, has stated that self-centeredness, selfishness and greediness among political leaders in the country had led to the economic hardship facing the country. He added that leaders should not go to the people only when it is election time, but should he concerned about their needs and aspirations. They vote for them believing in the fact that they have identified themselves with their concerns and aspirations, they get in there and they have a different thing all together, then they come back again expecting the voters to accept them back, he noted. Speaking on Adom FM yesterday, Mr. Akwetey mentioned that Ghana needed leaders such as ex-presidents Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Jerry John Rawlings, to get the country back on track. According to him, these leaders were selfless and had the concerns of the citizens at heart, saying we have never had a personality who is selfless and committed to the course of the black man apart from these two and they come once in a century, He was of the view that leaders of the country today are still castigating each other and have not learnt anything from Dr. Nkrumah, noting that leaders of such caliber were chosen by God. He further disclosed that some members of the NDC are wishing for the failure of the president and reiterated governments commitment in ensuring that Ghana becomes a better place for all. Mr. Akwetey stated that Ghanaians should reflect when celebrating the life of Dr. Nkrumah because some political leaders after Nkrumah had not been able to continue his works. He further urged Ghanaians not to dwell too much on the past, but should focus on the good things ahead. We dont have to cherish or praise the dead, we are alive and we have to take total control of our environment and our future and to work towards achieving the Better Ghana Agenda that were yearning for, he said. Touching on his ambition for the party, Mr. Akwtey said he would bring on board a leadership of selflessness, commitment and total commitment for the NDC when voted as the Greater Accra regional chairman. He further disclosed that he had begun with the initiative to put up four constituency offices for the party in Teshie, Kpone, Osu Doku, and Amasaman all in the capital city which are expected to be completed in December.
