Two Held Over Raid Of Mining Company

Two men suspected to be members of a robbery gang that attacked a Chinese Mining Company at Biakoyede near Obuasi have been arrested and are being held by the police in Kumasi. Samuel Arthur and Golbert Asare, together with four others on the run, reportedly raided the mine on September 11, at about 1930 hours, and made off with cash of GH270,000.00, six laptop computers and 12 cellular phones. They also seized a pump action gun, pistol, a Chinese passport and other documents. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ampofo Duku, Deputy Ashanti Regional Commander, told a press briefing that Asare, a dismissed worker of the company, is believed to have masterminded the crime. He said they were still investigating and would put the suspects before court as soon as they were done with their investigation. ACP Duku vowed to go to every length to arrest and to bring to justice their fugitive accomplices.
