UBA Bank Launches "Win A University Educational Grant" Essay.

UBA foundation, the Corporate and Social Responsibility wing of the United Bank for Africa has launched the maiden edition a National Essay Competition amongst Senior High School students in Ghana. According to Ijeoma Aso, the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the bank, the winner takes home a whooping GHS 17,700.00. The first runners-up will take away GHS 12,390.00, while the second runners-up will receive GHS 7,080.00 towards university tuition/fees and a laptop. Interested applicants must attach photocopies of their original birth certificates or photocopies of international passport data page, to get into the competition. It is, however, open to students of Senior High Schools in Ghana and entries are expected to be dropped by mail and at any UBA branch across the country. The handwritten essay of not more than 750 words, on the topic, �Is Social Media a safe place to make friends�? , should be submitted along with their complete contact information, (school name & address, residential address, phone number and email address). The competition will be judged by a panel made up of professors from reputable Ghanaian Universities. On his part, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Deputy Minister of Education expressed gratitude to UBA for their contribution to inculcate the habit of reading and writing amongst students. ��the advent of technology has come with many negatives, such as short hands which tend to an impact our the writing and speech. This is evident in CV�s, applications and many other documents. �With a competition such as this, students will go back to writing proper English and that is positive,� he said.
