Martin Amidu Strikes AgainPetitions JDC Over $5.5m Payment

Mr Martin Amidu, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General, has petitioned the Judgement Debt Commission in Accra over payment made to Yakubu Kasule of Gbewa Civil Engineering Limited. According to the petition, proper legal procedures were not followed during the settlement of the case by the then Minister of Justice Attorney General, Mrs Betty Mould Iddrisu, which led to the payment of $5 million as judgement debt to the Gbewa Civil Engineering Limited. The petition said, even though the cases were four different kinds between Yakubu Kasule and the government, there was no consolidation order to prove, even though it was consolidated as one case and there were no documents to prove that the settlement of the case was put before court to be adopted as consent judgement. Meanwhile, Mrs Helen Ziwu, Acting Solicitor General, who appeared before the Commission in Accra to provide documents regarding the petition filed by the former Attorney General, said the Attorney Generals Department is yet to come across any document to show that there was an order to consolidate the case. Besides, there is also no document to prove that the settlement of the case was put before court to be adopted as a consent judgement. Other witness who were billed to appear before the Commission were the Controller and Accountant General Department, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Roads and Highways, but they were unable to testify citing a late receipt of the summons. The case was, therefore, adjourned by the Commission to enable them prepare fully for the case.
